Our values determine our attitudes and behaviours and wherever GB is at work you’ll see these values being lived out in the way leaders engage with children and young people. GB adds value to the lives of thousands by giving them a foundation for life of new skills, opportunities to serve others and an introduction to Jesus Christ.
Anyone who comes in contact with GB in any way should experience that we are:
Fun!
In GB we laugh a lot - there are smiles because we enjoy activities and feel at ease in our relationships.
Sound!
GB is safe and secure. We take care in training and equipping leaders to operate responsibly in everything they do in GB. Safeguarding children and leaders and taking care to manage risk is important to GB.
Friendship!
Children, young people and leaders make friends through GB. We have time to get to know one another, to care and support each other like friends do. GB friends often become life-long friends.
Discovering Jesus!
Through GB, children, young people and their wider families discover the story of Jesus for themselves. They have opportunities and space to learn about Him and to become people who live like Him in this world.
Living it!
GB enables children and young people to discover gifts, develop their potential, take up opportunities to develop leadership and life skills and to express their values and faith in the way they live.
Yes!
GB is full of applause, encouragement, certificates, awards, smiles and simple ‘well dones’. GB loves to affirm young people - to acknowledge their gifts, skills, achievements and efforts and to celebrate who they are.
Our Mission:
Live among, and for, this generation as relational, relevant, and responsive people of mission.
We believe that the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the clearest expression of God’s love for His world and we seek to follow and serve Him in the way that we fulfil our mission.
In 2018, GB celebrated 125 years of mission among children and young people.
OUR MEMBERS:
Worldwide there are over 3,000 GB companies and over 126,000 members.
GB is active in five fellowships (areas) – Africa, Asia, Caribbean & Americas, Europe and Pacific – and every country is united in its vision to help girls and young women Seek, Serve and Follow Christ.
COSTS INVOLVED, ETC
The Girls’ Brigade is a voluntary Christian organisation, which means that the adults who help out do not get paid and we do not get any funds from any government or council departments. We have to raise our funds through subscriptions and fund-raising events.
Any girl is able to visit free of charge for the first night to get settled and decide if she wants to become a regular member. For girls who come regularly, there is a yearly fee. The subscription fee (subs) pays for a number of things:
Subscriptions can be paid as follows:
3 girls in the Company £165.00 plus 50p per week
4 girls in the Company £220.00 plus 50p per week
April-July £20.00 plus 50p per week
(*depending on when Easter falls)
(Fees to be paid on the first Friday back in each term.)
PLEASE NOTE: All yearly and termly fees are non-refundable.
Uniform
Girls are expected to wear a uniform. These are issued after a girl has been with us for 3-5 weeks and are provided by the Company via Girls’ Brigade England & Wales Trading at our Girls’ Brigade Central Office. The cost of a uniform varies according to what is required and can be paid for in instalments. As our current uniform was only introduced recently we currently have only a few second-hand uniforms available.
