Formation
The 1st Uxbridge Company of the Girls' Life Brigade was started at the Methodist Central Hall, Park Road, Uxbridge, in 1935 by Miss Ruth Meggeson. The Company Chaplain was the Rev F Ronald Ducker and the Lieutenants were Miss Elsie Ivy, Miss Florrie Turney and "Nanny" Crate (a lovely lady, and known as "Nanny" to everyone, she was nanny to the Rev Ducker's children). In 1944 Miss Eileen Perry, who had been a helper in the Company, took over as Captain and led the Company for the next 12 or so years.
In 1965 The Girls' Life Brigade united with The Girls' Brigade (Ireland) and The Girls' Guildry to become The Girls' Brigade.
In 1972 the 1st Uxbridge Company of The Girls' Brigade moved to Christ Church, Redford Way following the uniting of the Methodist and Congregational Churches in Uxbridge.
In 2010, the company celebrated its 75 year anniversary with a special service. Click here to open the programme of the service.
Our Company currently has around 40 girls enjoying a wide range of activities from our weekly night activities to annual camp.
